It often feels like a coping mechanism. If we ridicule AI enough, maybe it’ll go away and let us keep doing our jobs the same way we’ve done for decades.
But the genie is out of the bottle, and it’s not going back in. Industries are shifting. And so should the specialists within them. Instead of dismissing AI outright, they should be testing it, figuring out what sticks and what doesn’t. Learning new capabilities that are already becoming valuable. Working to make their organization one of the first to adapt, not one of the last.
Because refusing to learn, try, or evolve is what’s actually risky. Maybe your industry is slow-moving, and you’ve got some time. Or maybe AI won’t disrupt your field as much as others. Worst case, you learn something you don’t need... yet. But what if the change comes faster than you think? What if your industry shifts more than you expect? What if others in your field already have a head start?
